Let’s talk about firebug and how we can use it with Selenium WebDriver.

Well, firebug is an add on to firefox browser. What does it mean??

Firebug was a free and open-source web browser extension for Mozilla Firefox that facilitated the live debugging, editing, and monitoring of any website’s CSS, HTML, DOM, XHR, and JavaScript.

Firebug helps a lot in test Automation using Selenium WebDriver. But the question here is HOW?

Well, in test automation, we need to identify the test objects (application objects). This identification can be done by using  Firebug  in case of firefox browser .

How to use firebug in selenium WebDriver?

Step1:  The first step is to add this firebug into your firefox browser. Let’s see how we can achieve this.

Go to Menu of firefox browser. Click on Tools and “Add-ons”




Steps 2: This would open up another tab called “Add-ons Manager”. In this, type “furebug” in the search box.http://www.seleniumonlinetutor.com/


Step 3: In search results , select firebug and click on install.



Step 4: After installation, restart firefox browser.

Step 5: Open any website and click on F12 from keyboard to launch the firebug. That would look like as given below.



Step 6:  Smile as firebug is installed and working.  🙂

Now, you can locate /identify the web elements of any web application and write automated tests on them.
